The model-based simulator uses the same technology used in AVR Studio 4 (the so-called "Simulator 2"). It has been extended to support modelling of 32-bit UC3 and ARM devices as well.
The instruction set simulator from AVR32 Studio is presently not available in Atmel Studio. Model-based simulator is used instead.
